KRAGLE – We know IN PART

kragle

The Lego Movie has so many interesting applications…and that just makes me giddy!

So here’s another one.  (Did you miss the first one?  Click here.)

The have a prophecy about the “Kragle.”  Turns out, the Kragle is actually an old tube of Krazy Glue, and some of the letters have been erased—Kragle is all they can make out.

I think this is how prophecies are in general.  God’s word is full of prophecies, but people have gotten them wrong throughout history.  Why?  Because they have a tube of Kragle and have very little context for it.  Without another tube of Krazy Glue to compare it with, they don’t know they are missing a few of the details, like letters.  Kragle.  That’s what it clearly says.  That’s the facts.  How could they be misinterpreting anything?  They’re reading it right out.  K-R-A-G-L-E.

There’s only one thing that can stop the Kragle – the “Piece of Resistence”.  Which looks like a lego piece, but isn’t.  It’s the square, red cap for the Krazy Glue.  They need the cap to stop the glue.  The truth is, they could have stuck any Lego piece on the end of that “Kragle” and glued it shut, but they don’t understand.  They only know, in part.

The Lego people have all manner of items from the world of “the man upstairs” (i.e. man’s world).  And all are equally understood in part.  They have “Polish Remover of Na-Il” (2 syllables), they don’t know what nails are, or nail polish, but they do understand that this stuff removes, say, faces when you apply it to a Lego man’s face.  They have a “Sword of Exact Zero” (an exact-o razor blade), and the “Orb of Tight-Leist” (a golf ball).  They use them, they do their best with them, they come close with them…but they cannot fully understand what they were made for as long as they remain in LegoLand, and the items are from a world they’ve never known.

Dare we think that we are any better when it comes to understanding things from God’s Kingdom, a world that we have never known?  Granted, we have the Holy Spirit.  He can help us come much closer to the truth and to understanding fully, but our understanding will always be limited this side of Heaven.

Paul writes about this in 1 Corinthians 13: 9-12:

For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

This isn’t to say it’s hopeless to try.  The Lego people were fairly close in their understanding of things, it’s just that, like the Kragle, there were often some missing details.  Trying to know and understanding more is important.  God blesses those who “hunger and thirst for righteousness” (Matthew 5:6).  The important thing is to recognize that we may not have all the details.  We need to realize that what we know, we know in part.  This allows us to have grace and love with others whose understandings are also in part.

Interestingly enough, that passage from 1 Corinthians 13 is nestled right in the middle of a passage about love.  It concludes by saying love is the most important thing.  Why?  Because we are going to disagree.  Why?  Because we only know in part.  So we need to disagree IN love and WITH love.

Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained.  Philippians 3:15-16

As a Christian working to make Krazy Glue every day, I wanted to let you know I enjoyed your post. It was neat the way you tied the events of the movie to our everyday lives. I have been thinking along this same line recently about how it is difficult for us to see the whole picture. Fortunately some day we will see the entire glorious picture come together. Keep writing, you do a great job!
